What is Pilates?

PILATES of SEAFORD

Pilates is an exercise system devised by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. He used his system to help detainees during the 1st World War improve their fitness; he then went on to open a studio and work with dancers in New York. The exercises have now been adapted by various Pilates teaching organisations in order to be more suited to the general public. Pilates is a strong, yet gentle form of exercise which assists the core muscles of the body to work more effectively to support the spine. It encourages good posture, strength and flexibility. Pilates is non-impact and is often recommended by medical professionals for those with low back ache. Details of classes with the fabulous Patricia Robertson can be found her on her website

Patricia Robertson runs Pilates of Seaford and takes up residence in our swanky new first floor (Studio 2) There are a limited number of places left on some of the courses, contact Pilates of Seaford to find out if you can still attend.

VAJRASATI YOGA

Rosie started regular yoga practice in 1999 and she trained in Iyengar yoga for two years, and subsequently attended Hatha, Scaravelli, and Kundalini classes. It was the Vajrasati Yoga School which brought everything together, and she had found her spiritual home. She graduated from the Vajrasati teacher training course in 2009 and holds a 500hr Yoga Alliance accredited teaching qualification. Rosie has recently completed further training to teach students with ME and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, elements of which she uses with students who have other limitations to their practise. Rosie’s teaching focuses on using the breath to deepen and extend the body, mind and spirit. She encourages students to work meditatively, listening closely to their own bodies and breath, and using their inner resources to develop postures only as the body allows, and without grasping. Her current experience includes teaching more mature and less able students.
